History
It all started in 2013 when Antonella Bellina, textile researcher, CTO and Founder of the Duedilatte project, had the idea of creating a new textile fibre from milk. In 2013, Duedilatte started studying textile bioengineering with the aim of revolutionising the textile casein production process in a sustainable and innovative way. Duedilatte produces fibre, yarns and fabrics by redefining the concept of milk fibre in an pioneering way. Duedilatte fibre is antibacterial containing protein amino acids. Duedilatte produces a wide range of yarns and fabrics also in blends with other high-performance natural fibres. Milk fibre traces its origins back to 1933 when the first form of Textile Casein was synthesised by an engineer from Brescia, Dr Antonio Ferretti.
The milk market in Italy has about 30 million tonnes of waste every year. Milk is too precious a raw material to be squandered and this is why the Duedilatte project aims to valorise surplus production from the agro-food chain by transforming it into a new resource in the sustainable textile sector. The fashion industry is among the most polluting in the world, which is why Duedilatte’s technology fits in, through a manufacturing process that marries the principles of circular economies and environmental sustainability, with production methods that have a very low environmental impact and that enhance the resources of our territory without exploiting it. In 2022, the company was taken over by Duedilatte Switzerland Sàrl.
